Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) held its first Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) Summit on 25 November 2024, underscoring its commitment as the Engine of Growth for Sarawak’s development. Through the Summit, Sarawak Gas Roadmap and the Kuching Low-Carbon Hub were launched, showcasing Sarawak’s readiness to lead in low-carbon solutions while highlighting vast investment opportunities available. The Summit brought together over 500 delegates, comprising of industry leaders, government agencies, community leaders, and representatives from academia to network, share ideas and confront current challenges of energy transition.

A virtual reality booth was set up to allow delegates to immerse in the innovative vision of the Kuching Low-Carbon Hub.

Irtiza currently serves as President for Low Carbon Solutions at ExxonMobil APAC. Zharin Zhafrael, based in Singapore, is Shell’s General Manager for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) East. A Chartered Accountant by training, Zharin joined Shell in October 2003 where her 20-year career in Shell evolved on the foundation of diverse commercial roles across Upstream, Integrated Gas and Downstream businesses. Her experience includes LNG market development, commercial contract negotiations, governance in non-Shell operated ventures, and overseeing almost 1000 Shell retail stations nationwide, driving Shell’s commitment to sustainability and energy transition in the region.

Her journey in decarbonisation started in 2003 when she pursued registering Shell MDS plant in Bintulu for the Clean Development Mechanism project under the UNFCCC. Recently returned from sabbatical leave where she joined the social movement in advocating the reform of discriminatory laws and policies against women globally, Zharin is a strong advocate and believer in CCS to bridge addressing climate change concerns and sustaining energy security for all forms of society. She is committed to collaborating with stakeholders in the region to realise Net Zero Emissions by 2050 ambition.
